I have already done most of the steps for having a company in Denmark, and they weren't so difficult to do. And because of the business friendly characteristics of Denmark as country, my idea of business have a great chance of being profitable.

So, how and why should anyone have a company in Denmark and be an entrepreneur in Denmark?

Two of the things that I like the most when having a company in Denmark and of course making money in Denmark are that: Denmark is a very high technological advance country, and that the people in Denmark use a lot the internet.

So it is possible to have company in Denmark, for example an online company in Denmark, and have almost immediate economic success. It is not always necessary like in most of the countries of the world to have a physical store to be able to have a company in Denmark and start selling.

From the two companies I have in Denmark, well one is a company and the other is more a business, both of them were made online here in Denmark.

The potential for profitability by having a company in Denmark is very big, because there aren't in general many small and medium companies, business, stores, restaurants, services provides, etc in Denmark.
The main reasons for this are because the salaries in Denmark are very high, and because the people living in Denmark prioritize their quality of life and the time with their families. So they tend to decide to prioritize to have only one job, and not to have their own companies and be entrepreneurs in Denmark.
Also the working conditions here in Denmark are really good, so this combined with high salaries, then it doesn't gives too much motivation to be trying to generate more money by having a company in Denmark.
In my home country where the salaries are not as high as they are in Denmark and the working conditions and not as good, then the people tend to have two or three jobs. Or they run two or three companies at the same time. Time. Foreigners in Denmark, when they arrive to live to Denmark they have to be a period of time doing nothing, meanwhile they wait for their immigration papers to be approved, so they can obtain their live and work in Denmark permits and CPR.
Money. Foreigners in Denmark, when they arrive to live to Denmark, they normally come with money from selling their house, apartment, car, etc in their home country.
Business mentality. Foreigners in Denmark, when they arrive to live to Denmark, and also after some years of having live in Denmark, they have the mentality from their home countries of money, money, money and of doing business and of having companies and also a strong entrepreneur spirit.

Although in a way I miss a little bit the fact of that when one have to open a company or a business in other countries one has to go physically to different places. Lack of knowledge of the taxes and legal requirements to have a company in Denmark.
Yo get contagious by the people living in Denmark, because most of them choose not to have their own company and be entrepreneurs in Denmark and live only having the income from their everyday job.
If you have a Danish partner, well there also might be sometimes some differences of priorities.

You can be your OWN boss.
You can choose your working schedule
It also provides an income. Your primary income or a secondary source of income.
You can maybe at some point have employees.
Having a company gives you the opportunity to interact with other people: customers, suppliers, people at the banks, etc
It gives you the challenge in life to make your company the best in the market, and to make your company profitable always.
Things are always changing in the world and in your chosen market, so it is always challenging to keep the pace and be competitive and successful running your company.
For good or bad it is your own company.
You have accomplish something in life. Something physical.
It gives you freedom
Increase of self esteem
If a family member or friend needs economic help, you can always try to help them by giving them a job in your company.

Don't get me wrong. I also love to be an employee, specially here in Denmark, were the working conditions are so good. But I am very goal orientated, so I love to see results. That is why the jobs I have had here in Denmark are related to Sales and Marketing, were I can open new markets, increase the profitability of my employers, I can close many sales for the company were I work, etc.

I have recently created a Marketing Plan for a multinational Danish company here in Denmark, and they were very happy and interested with the Sales and Marketing strategy proposed by me. I think it was great to be able to make a company even more profitable.

I believe Denmark could be better at encouraging the entrepreneurship that all off us have inside: women, men, Danes and Foreigners living in Denmark.

Denmark already gives a lot of information and help for people who wants to have a company in Denmark, but it could definitely do much, much more. Denmark should realize that there is a great potential to increase its economy by encouraging, helping more, and improving the approach it gives to entrepreneurs living inside and outside Denmark.

I think Denmark does a great job in encouraging highly well educated foreigners to come to live and work in Denmark and in encouraging multinational companies to come to Denmark to have a company and to invest in Denmark. But maybe the same amount of effort could be done with regarding the not so well educated Foreigners living in Denmark, entrepreneurs wanting to have a company in Denmark in a small or medium scale, importing or exporting in Denmark in a small and medium scale.

I mean if a developer of Electric cars come to Denmark to invest and have a company here in Denmark it will generate money and probably approximately 100 jobs for Danes and foreigners living in Denmark. I learned how to use a bicycle when I was a little in my home country, but I haven’t really used a bicycle ever since, until I moved to Copenhagen. One of the first things I did when I arrived to Copenhagen was to buy my bicycle and start using immediately.

A number of new pedestrian and cycle bridges across the main harbour as well as canals are planned, to make for more direct routes, increasing overall traveling speed and improving safety. Recently completed new bridges include Bryggebroen across the harbour, connecting Vesterbro and Islands Brygge, and Åbroen over the heavily used artery Åboulevarden. There are plans for a new bridge across the harbour as well as a number of smaller bridges across canals, which will improve access to Christianshavn and in particular Holmen. Another planned pedestrian and cycle bridge, to be designed by Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, will cross the southern mouth of Christianshavn Canal, facilitating passage along the waterfront.

A number of projects have been launched to ease Copenhagen's notorious shortage of bicycle parking spaces, particularly at transport hubs. These include plans for 2,500 new bicycle spaces, placed sunken 'bicycle beds' in connection with a refurbishment of Nørreport Station and an architectural competition for a new 7,000 bicycle parking facility above the rail tracks at Central Station, due to open in 2013.

To combat problems with bike thefts, the City of Copenhagen has entered into cooperation with the Technical University of Denmark to develop a scheme for tracking stolen bikes by GPS. An RFID chip is affixed to bicycles and parking attendants carry GPS-equipped RFID scanners which will send an e-mail with the location to the owner if a bicycle is registered as stolen. 5,000 chips were been handed out free of charge in a pilot project.

I have used a bicycle in Copenhagen as a medium of transportation for many years and I really enjoyed it. The sensation of freedom, that having a bicycle in Copenhagen gives, is difficult to describe. Before living in Copenhagen, I had always used a car as a medium of transportation. But in Copenhagen one of the first things I did as soon as I arrived to the city, was to buy my bicycle.

What makes people in Aarhus, Denmark happy? I found this video where Danish people and some foreigners in Denmark comment about what makes them happy about living in Denmark. These interviews were taken in the beautiful city of Aarhus, Denmark. But I guess their opinions are possible to apply to all the Danish people and foreigners living in Denmark.

I was quite surprise that the drinking part wasn’t more emphasized. In my case I will add that drinking Carslbergs or Tuborgs also make me happy in Aarhus and Denmark in general =)

Also for me what makes me happy about living in Aarhus and Denmark in general are most of the things that were commented on the video like: family in Denmark, friends in Denmark, summer weather in Denmark, the possibility of just being as you are in Denmark.

Oh and another thing that I didn’t do so often in my home country, but I do here in Denmark is to grill. I really like to do barbecues in Aarhus. Well, I also did them when I lived in Copenhagen, Denmark.

An event in Denmark that I can easily recommend is the event called Sculpture by the sea in Aarhus, Denmark. Yesterday I went to the Sculpture by the sea in Aarhus, Denmark and I really enjoyed it. Of course, the fact that the weather in the beautiful city of Aarhus, Denmark was just perfect made the experience even better.

This is not my first time visiting the event called Sculpture by the sea in Aarhus, Denmark. I was also at this even two years ago. The event had the same name: Sculpture by the sea in Aarhus, Denmark, but the sculptures two years ago were different.

English is considered a second language in Denmark (Danish people speak English very well) and the education system in Denmark is very good. The weather in Denmark is also very seasonable and most people adapt to it very well (except on January when is very grey and cold).

Denmark has many good things to offer, and all the biggest cities in Denmark (Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg) have everything that is needed to keep people busy and happy. With all the attractions that Denmark has, it is easy to understand why people seem to want to move to Denmark.

Copenhagen is a big attraction when it comes to the decision of moving to Denmark. Copenhagen has been named one of the best cities in the world where to live.

Copenhagen has many attractions to offer to its habitants and also to tourists, a good example of this is the: Tivoli Garden. Fine restaurants and cafes are among the things that someone can visit daily in Copenhagen.

So it is possible to conclude that no matter the reason, moving to Denmark is a good decision. I am not saying that Denmark hasn’t bad things; of course it also has some bad things. But in general, in my opinion Denmark has more good things that bad things, therefore I recommend moving to Denmark. In my case I was very happy living in my home country, but I am also happy living in Denmark (I came to Denmark to live because my girlfriend is a Danish woman).

An important thing to do before moving to Denmark

I remember when I was moving to Denmark. I felt there were just so many things to do before I could start moving to Denmark. But I finally did it, and at the end it wasn’t so difficult.

I think the best advice before moving to Denmark, is not to think too much about it. Just take the decision and carry on with it.

But after you have taken the decision to move to Denmark there is a very important thing you need to investigate and fix before moving to Denmark: your work and residence permit.

In Denmark obtaining the Danish work and resident permits is not very easy.

It helps if you have certain nationalities, have certain education backgrounds, certain working experience, what is the reason of you moving to Denmark, etc. But even though you have really good qualifications and you fit in the requirements that Denmark has to grant a work and residence permit, it is still a little bit complicate.

I have done it, and I succeed with it. I guess in my case it help that I have an education as a lawyer from my home country (so I am used to deal with paper diligences’ with the government). Also the fact that I move to Denmark, because my girlfriend is a Danish girl make thinks easier. Also her education is one of the one’s listed by Denmark in their positive list, which made things even easier.

When one is in love, one doesn’t think to clearly. I move to Denmark without having investigated too much about the requirements to obtain a Danish work and residence permit. I made all the paper work once I was already living in Denmark. If I could go back in time, I will not do it this way. Instead I would investigate much more before moving to Denmark, and if possible I would already had the work and residence permit before moving to Denmark.

There are quite a good number of requirements Denmark asks foreigners to fulfill (and their Danish partners), before granting the work and residence permits.

After I obtained my work and residence permit in Denmark, my life here in Denmark has been good. I have learned the Danish language, I have had jobs in Copenhagen, Jobs in Aarhus, I have taken a Sales and Marketing education in Aarhus, etc, etc, etc.

But in the beginning, before I obtained my Danish work and residence permit, my situation was a little bit difficult because I was in stand by, without being able to do anything. I was waiting for my Danish work and residence permit to be approved by the Danish immigration service, so I could get my CPR, and then start my live here in Denmark, after moving to Denmark from my home country.

I wish you the best of lucks in your journey moving to Denmark, and in to obtain your Danish work and residence permit here in Denmark.

The Culture of Denmark has some general characteristics often associated with the Danish society and with the everyday Danish people lifestyle.

Indeed, deliberate attempts from the Danish people to distinguish themselves from others may be viewed with hostility in line with the Jante's Law, which is a widely respected unofficial code of Danish people lifestyle and culture of Denmark.

From the years I have been living in Denmark, among the culture of Denmark and the Danish people lifestyle, some of the things that have strike the most are: The Danish Jante law, the Danish hygge, the Danish cuisine, The Danish drinking culture and the Danish lifestyle of bicycles.

The Jante Law is a pattern of group behavior towards individuals within the culture of Denmark, which negatively portrays and criticizes individual success and achievement as unworthy and inappropriate.

There are ten different rules in the Jante law, but they all express variations on a single theme and are usually referred to as a homogeneous unit: Don't think you're anyone special or that you're better than us.

The ten rules of the Jante law are:

Hygge. One of the fundamental aspects of the culture of Denmark and the Danish people lifestyle is "hygge".

Hygge cannot really be translate into English or any other language. The closest English word to it is: cozy.

Hygge can be describe as: spending a calm, comfortable time with good friends or loved ones, often while enjoying good food, snacks and something to drink.

Example of the Danish hygge: On Christmas time, when loved ones sit close together with candles lit on a cold rainy night, is a true moment of "hygge".

A traditional Danish lunch includes smørrebrød (smørrebrød is definitely not one of my favorite things of the culture of Denmark and the Danish people lifestyle)

In the evening, hot meals are usually served. Traditional dishes include fried fish, roast pork, pot-roasted chicken, Danish Frikadeller or pork chops. (even thought I believe the food of my home country is much better than the Danish food, I still think the Danish food is acceptable and I actually enjoy eating it most of the times).

The culture of Denmark and the Danish people lifestyle regarding drinking alcohol.

Danish people are known for enjoying an open-minded drinking culture. Buying alcohol is legal in shops at the age of 16, and in bars at 18. There is no minimum drinking age. However teens are traditionally allowed to begin drinking after confirmation as 13-14 year olds.

The Danish people drink a lot. This is something I like about the Danes. I mean I am not an alcoholic and they are not alcoholics either, but alcohol is always a good ice breaker. In my home country we also drink a lot.

The culture of Denmark and the Danish people lifestyle regarding bicycles.

Most Danes (and myself) are active cyclists, often using their bikes to go to their jobs or to go off on trips at the weekend. With its well-engineered cycle paths, Copenhagen is especially suited to use bicycles in the city. During the summer months, there are free "City Bikes" stationed at various spots in the downtown area of Copenhagen, Aarhus and Aalborg. Odense, Denmark has been named the "bicycle city of the year" because of the great number of bicycle lanes in the city.

I used to use my bicycle s lot more when I lived in Copenhagen, than I do here here in Aarhus, Denmark.

Modesty, punctuality but above all equality are important aspects of the Danish people lifestyle and also of the culture of Denmark.

In general I can conclude that I like and enjoy the Culture of Denmark and the Danish people lifestyle.

Fitness World is a good Gym in Denmark

Fitness World is a good Gym in Denmark.

I have already been a member of two other Gyms’ in Denmark:

My first Fitness center in Copenhagen, Denmark was the Fitness center Equinoxx (with which I was very happy),

My second Fitness center in Aarhus, Denmark was the Dansk Fitness (with which I was medium happy),

And now here in Aarhus, Denmark I am a member of the Fitness center called Fitness World (until now I am quite satisfied with this gym).

The things I like about the Fitness center called Fitness world Denmark are (pros):

The price. The price I am paying right now at the Fitness world Aarhus, Denmark is only 229 kr. a month, which is actually a quite reasonable and good price compare to other Fitness centers in Denmark like SATS or Fitness.dk
I like that Fitness world is a good fitness center. It has all the necessary Fitness equipment to be a good Fitness center in Denmark.
I like Fitness world advertising campaigns.

The things I don’t like about the Fitness center called Fitness world Denmark are (cons):

Fitness world it is a quite simple Fitness center. It doesn’t have any fancy equipment or services. It is definitely not a luxurious Fitness center. It is more of just a basic gym in Denmark, were you go to train your body and that is all. It doesn't have any fancy or luxurious installations like other gyms in Denmark like Equinoxx, SATS or Fitness.dk.
Is not that I need it because I don’t (I am more into only weight lifting), but it seems that Fitness World doesn’t offer the Zumba training (other gyms in Denmark like SATS or Dansk Fitness they do offer Zumba classes). And other types of Fitness classes are not offered completely by Fitness World, but they are offered in the other Fitness centers.

In conclusion, I will say that I am satisfied in general with Fitness World because it covers my gym necessities: price, weight lifting and location (is very close to my house), but if they open a SATS or Fitness.dk also close by my home, then I will think about it. Because I like to be a member of gyms in Copenhagen or Gyms in Denmark that offer fancy services and machines (I don’t mind paying an extra amount of money in my monthly Fitness center payment). I like to go to the gym, and I try to use all the extra services the gyms offer.

Actually I just found out while writing this post that the Fitness centers chain Fitness world have recently bought the Fitness centers chain called Equinox in Denmark.

I wish you a good training at the gym Fitness world or at any other gym in Denmark.

Tuition is built up around themes. These are decided on in collaboration between you, your fellow students and the teachers. Each theme typically lasts three weeks, during which you work with various assignments. You train your written and verbal language skills and also work on reading and listening. It is a really nice and well functioning airport. The Copenhagen airport has everything a first class airport should have. It is modern, easy to reach from the center of Copenhagen and have all the right services.

I have used the Copenhagen airport many times. I am constantly traveling from Copenhagen to other countries for business or pleasure, and it is a really good starting point for my trips.

I specially enjoy the different coffee places that are at the Copenhagen airport. And of course the Copenhagen airport has also many nice restaurants.

I am often asked regarding jobs for lawyers in Denmark, mainly because of my background as a lawyer. Denmark lawyer jobs speaking only English or Danish are possible to obtain in Denmark, but they are definitely not easy to obtain.

Here is a transcript of the communication I had with a person seeking a job in Denmark as a lawyer:

Hi,

I was enjoying reading your blog and noticed that you have studied law and have had jobs as a lawyer. I wonder if you could give me any advice on the Danish legal sector. I've just completed a law degree and I have been learning Danish as I'm thinking of moving to Denmark to get a job as a lawyer. I could build on the Legal Practice Diploma I have from my home country by doing a two years law traineeship followed by three years work as a lawyer. Then I could work in any EU country as a lawyer but I wouldn't necessarily know any Danish law.

I approached the Advokatsamfundet who suggested that I could do the Masters course (2 years) then work as a trainee lawyer in Denmark. They were a bit unenthusiastic about it and pointed out that nobody had, as yet, done this. Indeed I was having a look at the employee listings of some of the larger commercial firms in Copenhagen and it seems that the personnel are almost 100% Nordic.

I wonder whether it would be an uphill struggle to try to pursue a legal profession in Denmark? I hope it would be possible as I am very fond of the country and culture and would like to live in Denmark. If you have any knowledge or experience you could share I'd be very interested. Sorry for not adding to the comments section on your blog but I'm having some 'technical problems'.

Regarding your pursuit of a job in Denmark as a lawyer, it will be difficult to succeed. Not impossible, thought. I have heard of three successful cases of people having lawyer jobs in Denmark:

A person who came to Denmark and then got an assessment of his foreign law education (to have a Danish official institution to validate most of your foreign law degree of the University from your home country) and then studied at the University of Copenhagen to complete the Danish requirements (the Danish legal subjects he was missing) and now he has a job as a lawyer in Copenhagen, Denmark. But the truth is that is very difficult to do this, especially if you have a limited knowledge of the Danish language and the Danish law system in general (I have also tried this option. I made the assessment of my foreign law education and investigate how to apply to the law University in Copenhagen, Denmark, but at the end I choose not to continue this path)
The other case is from a lawyer in his home country, specialized in international law, that got a job as a lawyer in an international Danish company. Speaking only English (I have also tried this option. I sent my unsolicited job application to a company called Maersk and after the job interview with them, they said no. If you are specialized in international law, you have the highest percentage of success of having a Denmark lawyer job, especially at the big international Danish companies like Mærsk, Vestas, etc. You can find jobs in Denmark for lawyers specialized in International law and other different jobs in different Danish jobs sites (there are jobs opportunities posted on those sites for job seekers speaking only Danish, but also for job seekers speaking other languages like for example English).

In my case I was specialized criminal and labour law in my home country. I loved to be in a court of law in front of a judge and be the best. I could have studied Danish perfectly and done the above requirements to have a Denmark job as lawyer, but I felt I would have never be as good as a Dane who had born, raised, studied and with much more contacts than me here in Denmark.

In my home country I studied law at the University for 5 years, meanwhile I was studying I was a law trainee in different law firms. When I graduate I started to have jobs as a lawyer, until finally I could open my own law firm and I had a good amount of clients. It was really, really, nice. I was the king. It is so nice to be a successful lawyer.

I came to Denmark for love to my Danish girlfriend. When one is in love, one doesn't think objectively.

I don't regret moving here to Denmark and have left everything including my law career for my Danish girlfriend. But is not a journey for everyone.

Now, I have studied in Denmark Sales and Marketing and have had Denmark jobs in Sales and Marketing.

We meet to emphasize the meaning of the Aarhus 2010 Festuge's main theme: NEIGHBOURS, as well as welcome all new students that have come to Aarhus and to promote the spontaneous interaction between people.

At exactly 5pm we all freeze for 3 minutes in positions that show the
unity, friendship and hospitality. For example, we shake hands, kiss the
cheek, hug each other etc. You can even grab a beer and say: "Skal!". Then
we end when we hear the whistle and just spread out.

Afterwards we invite everyone to join us for a picnic at the Botanical
Garden (bring your own food and beverages)!

I think the idea of this event is fun and meaningful. It captures the whole concept of this year Aarhus festuge in a couple of minutes.
Many of my friends are participating in this event, and I will also will be a part of it.
I have been thinking a lot in which position a will freeze. I have a couple of ideas now, but I haven’t taken a final decition yet.

In Copenhagen I attended at the KISS Danish language school to learn Danish for free.

After my experience at the KISS Danish school in Copenhagen, I can say that is a good school to learn the Danish language.

KISS Danish school in Copenhagen is known to be the best Danish school or at lest one of the best Danish schools in Copenhagen.
KISS Danish school in Copenhagen it is also known to be brutally difficult and intense. But their system works, if one really wants to learn Danish in the right way, especially the Danish language pronunciation.
KISS Danish school in Copenhagen it is extraordinarily intense (so intense and difficult that you feel literally like crying), but it is also known for being the best.
KISS Danish school in Copenhagen method consist in intensively teach the Danish language in an oral and grammatical way. One of their more effective methods and the one that I hated the most (but is effective) it is that for homework one has to memorize 15 sentences in Danish. The next class one has to repeat loudly in front of the class those 15 sentences in Danish (without reading them, just by knowing them by hard).

I am definitely not perfect at Danish now, but I know enough to talk, write and read the Danish language.

I was able to learn Danish free at the KISS Danish school in Copenhagen for 3 years. It took me 3 years, because I had some pauses in my Danish language education here in Denmark, because of my work.

I was eligible to learn Danish free at the KISS Danish school in Copenhagen, because I am married to a Danish beautiful and amazing woman. As an outsider, researcher, new immigrant or tourist in Denmark it is very easy to be amazed and fall in love with Denmark since the beginning. This is because of its beauty, modernity, social welfare, people, culture, design, etc. One can see many reasons why Denmark is cool, and be impressed by the informational facts about this country.

I have been living in Denmark for some years now and the excitement I felt in the beginning is fainting a little bit.

I can feel I don’t have the same excitement anymore, as I had in my first encounter with Denmark and its culture.

For example, I can feel I don’t get so impress and excited anymore, as I did in my first time:

Which city is the best to live in Denmark: Copenhagen or Aarhus?

ANSWER: I have lived almost 4 years in Copenhagen, Denmark and I am living right now in Aarhus, Denmark.

I think both cities are great to live in.

In my opinion, Copenhagen, Denmark is a little bit better because it is bigger and more beautiful.

But I am very happy living in Aarhus because it is also a very beautiful city and it is possible to find absolutely the same things than in Copenhagen, Denmark just of course smaller and in fewer numbers.

I think Copenhagen, Denmark it is a great capital, but Aarhus it is the great second largest city and a really good second option to live in.

It is possible to see always many students in the cities of Denmark. At least in the two cites where I have lived in Denmark: Copenhagen and Aarhus; there are always many international students in the streets and everywhere.

I will recommend to study at the Universities in Denmark, because:

The level of education at the Universities Denmark is very high,
There are several good Universities in Denmark from where one can choose from,
Here in Denmark the companies have the tendency to accept easier new workers if they have an education from a University in Denmark,
Here in Denmark the government gives the SU meanwhile one studies at the Universities in Denmark.

Which city is the best to live in Denmark: Copenhagen or Aarhus?

ANSWER: I have lived almost 4 years in Copenhagen, Denmark and I am living right now in Aarhus, Denmark.

I think both cities are great to live in.

In my opinion, Copenhagen, Denmark is a little bit better because it is bigger and more beautiful.

But I am very happy living in Aarhus because it is also a very beautiful city and it is possible to find absolutely the same things than in Copenhagen, Denmark just of course smaller and in fewer numbers.

I think Copenhagen, Denmark it is a great capital, but Aarhus it is the great second largest city and a really good second option to live in.

So my standards for beaches and sea are very high, but I am glad to live in Copenhagen, Denmark. Even though the beaches in Copenhagen, Aarhus and the rest of Denmark are not like the ones in my home country, they can actually get close to their beauty (in the summer).
